The government is launching an electronic voucher-based digital payment system: e-RUPI

The Indian government is launching an electronic voucher-based digital payment system called e-RUPI which is a cashless and contactless method for digital payment. It is a prepaid UPI e-voucher redeemed either through a QR code or an SMS string.

There is no need of a card, digital payments app, or internet banking access, at the service provider.

This electronic voucher system is already used by many countries like the US, Colombia, Chile, Sweden, Hong Kong, etc.

India is now the co-chair of Asia Protected Areas Partnership

India is now the co-chair of the IUCN-supported Asia Protected Areas Partnership (APAP) for 3 years till November 2023 after replacing South Korea. Now India is responsible to assist and help other Asian countries in managing the protected areas.

The APAP is chaired by IUCN ( International Union for Conservation of Nature) Asia. It is co-chaired by the member countries of APAP on a rotational basis.

Kisan Kalyan Yojana| How it will benefit farmers?

The World’s Biggest Floating Solar Power Plant is going to build in India

The World’s largest Floating solar energy project is going to construct at the Omkareshwar dam on the Narmada river in Madhya Pradesh by 2023. 

Features

It is a 600 MW plant utilizing solar energy.

The panels can adjust their position automatically when the water level of the dam is low.

It will start generating power by 2022-23.

The floating solar plant is going to be designed in such a way as to withstand strong waves and floods while continue to generate solar power at the same time.

Rewa, the Largest Solar Power Plant in India| UPSC

 It is the first renewable energy project to supply a customer outside the state, i.e. Delhi Metro, which will get 24% of energy from the project and the remaining 76% being supplied to the state of Madhya Pradesh.

It is India’s first solar project to get funding from the Clean Technology Fund (CTF), which is available at the rate of 0.25%  for a 40-year period from the World Bank. The CTF promotes the low carbon technologies by financing them to shift there.

This project of Rewa will reduce carbon emission to approx. 15 lakh tons of CO2 per year.

It is the first solar project in India to break the “grid parity barrier”.

 ‘ASEEM’ digital platform by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is an Artificial Intelligence-based platform providing jobs where both the job seeker and the employer can interact with each other.

The purpose of the portal is to provide a digital medium to both the skilled and unskilled people who have returned home due to COVID 19 pandemic. So these workers by using this platform can get a job as per their experience and ability.

It is similar to the platforms created by private job companies in India such as Naukri.com, indeed.com, Times Job.com etc.

Open skies treaty| When & Why signed| Why US & Russia exit from it|UPSC

It allows 34 countries to conduct unarmed flights over one another’s territories including the US and Russia. It was signed in 1992 between the NATO members and the Warsaw pact countries. It came into effect in 2002.

It was first proposed in 1955, during the cold war to decrease the tensions.

Under the treaty, a member country can spy on any part of the other member country. This will build confidence between them

India was never a member of the treaty.

NITI Aayog’s SDG India Index 2021| UPSC

The SDG has 17 goals and 169 related targets that are to be achieved by 2030.
The SDG India Index 2021 was first launched in December 2018, for monitoring progress on SDG’s in all states of India. So the states progressed is checked by Niti Aayog in these 17 goals and then ranks are prepared.

In SDG India Index 2021, Kerala remained at the top position with a score of 75 while Bihar being the worst performer remained at the bottom position with a score of 52.
After Kerala, the second position is attained by both Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Bihar, Jharkhand, and Assam are the worst-performing states.

Anemia Mukt Bharat program| Himachal Pradesh jumped to the third spot

Madhya Pradesh topped the index with a score of 59.3, followed by Odisha. Himachal Pradesh jumped to the third spot from the 18th spot in 2018-19.
Himachal Pradesh government launches program to make the school going students anemia free. In this program, the students from class 6 to class 12 in all government schools were given Iron and Folic acid supplement doses daily.
